UNACOMA maintains relations with universities in Italy and abroad, working in particular with engineering and agrarian faculties. In this context, the organization took part in the CNR's agricultural mechanization research projects in 1965 and 1976, which contributed to technological innovation and the interest of end users in its application.

Its attention for technological innovation was confirmed at the special exhibitions organized for the EIMA industrial fair in 1981, 1987 and 1992, as well as international meetings.

From the event organized in 1987 arose the idea for the "Club of Bologna", an informal association of world-level experts on agricultural machines who meet in Bologna each year to debate and assess current and future trends.

Each year, UNACOMA sends all agrarian engineering faculties in the country the volume, Agricultural Mechanization in Italy, produced in Italian for the Ministry for Agricultural and Forestry Policies. The publication includes registration data for tractors and agricultural machines, based on the data submitted by farmers in claiming low-price fuel.

Working with universities and training and specialization schools, UNACOMA has promoted design competitions and training courses as well as working on the development of new technologies applicable to agriculture and earth-moving. Its monthly, Mondo Macchina, is a vehicle for publishing technical and scientific articles on university research, experimental technology and innovation applied to the various types of machine.
