Comacomp

Comacomp groups the Italian makers of components for agricultural, earth-moving and garden machinery and equipment as part of UNACOMA, the association of tractor and agricultural machinery manufacturers belonging to Confindustria, the Italian industrialist’s association. Created in 2008, Comacomp was envisaged in response to the specific needs of an important and varied sector of the economy as the manufacturers of the components used in the three main product areas covered by UNACOMA’s members.

The components produced by Comacomp’s members can be divided into the following main areas of which the first four are also used in earth-moving machinery and garden equipment:

  • mechanics (such as: PTO drive shafts, reducer and multiplier gears, gear boxes, freewheels, clutches, axles, etc.);
  • hydraulics (such as : cylinders, pumps, engines, valves, etc.);
  • electrical-electronics (such as: electrical equipment and wiring harnesses, electronic monitoring and control devices, GPS systems, computer and dashboard instruments, etc.);
  • miscellaneous (such as: tracks, cabs, seats, braking systems, chassis, three-point linkages, etc.);
  • irrigation (such as: pipes and hoses, fittings, filters, pumps, sprinklers, accessories, etc.);
  • spraying (such as: booms, pumps, fans, filters, control units, nozzles, etc.).

The components industry consists of qualified companies whose products are addressed to OEM and as spare parts of machines. They are highly specialised, which is one result of cooperation between manufacturer and components maker from the start, in the design and engineering phases.

Italy’s components industry developed in step with the agricultural, earth-moving and garden machinery and equipment industry is probably the world’s major producer of components across such a broad range that any requirement advanced by the manufacturers can be satisfied.

Components or integrated systems of components such as those emerging from interaction between mechanics, hydraulics and electronics play an increasingly strategic role in the development of technological innovation giving machines their characteristic reliability, performance, energy efficiency, respect for the environment and safety in use.

Comacomp’s specific aims include achieving a greater focus on some of UNACOMA’s activities as regards:

  • internationalisation and market promotion;
  • the organisation of specific events such as seminars and at fairs;
  • incentives for research projects promoting cooperation between member firms and research centres;
  • assistance with technical regulations .

Through Unacoma Service, Comacomp has cooperated in defining the organisational and promotional aspects of “EIMA Components”, the specialised section introduced for the first time at EIMA International 2008, to provide a showcase for the component makers, whose range of products and role as representatives of Italian industry is unique - and who provided the largest number of exhibitors of any sector covered by the fair.

Comacomp accounts 82 companies totalling an overall value of production of € 1,4 billion in 2009, exports covering roughly 80%, and employs about 6,000 people.
